Our surgical approach and centers

Thoracic surgery shouldn’t stall while you wait for a date.

Chest conditions rarely stay still. A nodule under observation, an esophageal tumour awaiting staging, or breathing that keeps getting harder — each one carries its own clock. We give Canadians the option to keep that timeline moving through our network of thoracic surgeons, sub-specialists and surgical centers across Canada, the USA and Europe.

  • NReach thoracic programs beyond your province, hospital or cancer centre.
  • NYour case is matched by surgical expertise, not simply availability.
  • NKeep momentum between diagnosis, staging and the operating room.

With chest conditions, the gap between finding something and treating it is the part that wears on you. We connect Canadians with leading thoracic surgeons and accredited centers across Canada, the USA and Europe so that gap gets shorter.

Access to minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques and technology

The Immediate Surgery Difference

Access to minimally invasive thoracic techniques and sub-specialty expertise.

Much of modern thoracic surgery is done through small incisions between the ribs rather than an open chest, using video-assisted or robotic techniques. Your case depends on your anatomy, your diagnosis and the surgeon’s experience with it. Our global network gives Canadians access to teams working at the front of these techniques, and to the imaging, staging and pathology capability that supports them.

  • NConsider approaches that may not be offered at your nearest centre.
  • NWork with specialist surgeons — lung, esophagus, airway or chest wall.
  • NMatch your procedure to the technology and expertise it demands.

A complete thoracic path to recovery.

A coordinated path to surgery for Canadians

Thoracic surgery sits at the end of a chain — imaging, biopsy, staging, lung function testing, then the operation itself. A delay anywhere along it delays everything after it.

Immediate Surgery holds that chain together, moving your case from first review through surgery and recovery with each stage managed for you.

  • NMatch with world renowned thoracic surgeons.
  • NAccess to minimally invasive surgical options.
  • NEvery aspect of your care is coordinated.

Questions about private cardiac surgery.

K
L

I have a lung nodule or mass that's being monitored. Can I get a surgical opinion now?

Yes. You don't need to wait for a scheduled follow-up scan to have your case looked at. Share your imaging and reports and we can arrange a review by a thoracic surgeon, who can advise whether the finding warrants a surgical approach, further testing or continued observation.

K
L

What types of thoracic surgery can you help arrange?

Our network covers the major areas of chest surgery, including but not limited to lung resections, esophageal procedures, pleural and mediastinal surgery, chest wall reconstruction and airway or tracheal reconstruction.

K
L

What records should I send for a thoracic surgical review?

Send everything you have currently. Depending on your condition this may include CT scans of the chest, PET-CT, pulmonary function tests, bronchoscopy or endoscopy reports, biopsy and pathology results, bloodwork, respirology or oncology consult notes and any previous operative reports. Our team will tell you if a surgeon needs anything further.

K
L

Can my procedure be done minimally invasively rather than open?

Sometimes. Video-assisted and robotic approaches are widely used in thoracic surgery, but suitability depends on the size and position of what's being treated, your prior surgical history and your overall lung function. The reviewing surgeon will explain which approach fits your case and why.

K
L

My lung function is reduced. Does that rule out surgery?

Not necessarily. Reduced lung function affects how much tissue can safely be removed and which approach is appropriate — it doesn't automatically close the door. Part of a thoracic assessment is determining what your breathing capacity can support, and some cases are better served by a smaller resection or a different treatment pathway entirely.

How is follow-up handled if I travel outside Canada for chest surgery?

Your surgical team sets the post-operative and discharge plan based on your procedure and recovery, including chest drain management and activity restrictions. Immediate Surgery coordinates records and follow-up requirements so the physicians continuing your care at home have what they need.
